A Special note from Nana

My Nana was a big part of my childhood, and i spent many weekends and school holidays with her.

She taught me how to cook, first on her old fuel stove and later on her “new-fangled” electric stove (way less dusty!). Nana cooked for us and for my grandfather's “crib” (his little lunch before the main meal).

We baked Sponge roll, Orange cake, Fruit cakes, Jammies, Anzac biscuits and chocolate slices. my Nana insisted i wear a clean apron and wash my hands often.

she was very patient and allowed me to do much of the cooking myself.

I loved cooking and eating with my grandparents, and i try to pass on this pleasure to my grandchildren. cooking remains a joy to me, a wonderful bonding experience with the grandies, and a great

opportunity for learning about measurement, vocabulary, time and the independence that comes from cooking to feed yourself and others.
